Move Beyond What Holds You Back

Talk Therapy Across BC & Ontario

The Method

Exploring the Unconscious

Psychodynamic therapy invites you into a deeper conversation with yourself. By exploring the hidden patterns, early experiences, and emotional currents that shape your present, we create a path toward lasting transformation and authentic self-understanding.

Depth-oriented therapy offers a chance to slow down and look beneath the symptoms. Not just to manage them, but to understand where they come from and why they persist. Many of our struggles are shaped by old patterns – ways of thinking, coping or relating that once helped us, but now hold us back.

Together, we can explore those deeper patterns. With insight and support, change becomes possible.

Primary Areas of Expertise

Anxiety & Attachment Patterns

Anxiety often shows up our connections with others. Together, we will explore your attachment patterns—how you reach for closeness or pull away if feeling trapped. How safe or unsafe you feel in relationships. By understanding the roots of these patterns, we work toward a steadier sense of self, calmer connections, and more secure ways of relating to the people in your life.

Complex Emotional Trauma

Complex trauma is often built over years—through difficult relationships, ongoing stress, or experiences that left you feeling unseen. Therapy offers a steady, contained space to gently process these layers. We focus on rebuilding safety in your body and mind, making sense of your history, and slowly expanding your capacity to feel, relate, and choose differently in the present.

Interpersonal Relationships

Relationships can be a mirror—showing us our longings, fears, and unresolved hurts. In our work, we look closely at patterns that repeat in your friendships, family life, and partnerships. As you gain insight into these dynamics, you can begin to set clearer boundaries, communicate more openly, and allow for deeper, more authentic connection.

Depressive Disorders

Depression can feel like a loss of color, direction, or energy. Rather than pushing symptoms away, we pay close attention to what your depression might be expressing about unmet needs, unspoken grief, or long-standing conflicts within yourself. Our work aims to restore a sense of aliveness, meaning, and inner cohesion—at your own pace.

Life Transitions & Identity

Major changes—moves, career shifts, separations, aging, or becoming a parent—often stir up deep questions about who you are. Therapy provides a reflective space to explore identity, values, and direction during these transitions. Together, we trace what you’re leaving behind, what you’re moving toward, and what wants to emerge in this new chapter.

Existential Anxiety & Purpose

Questions like “What is the point?” or “Am I living the life I want?” can be both frightening and important. In this work, we sit with the big questions rather than rush past them. We explore meaning, mortality, freedom, and responsibility in your life, helping you move toward a more intentional, self-authored way of living.

Joel Parker

Registered Psychotherapist (RP)

With over ten years of clinical experience, I specialize in psychodynamic therapy—a depth-oriented approach that explores the unconscious roots of emotional patterns. My practice is built on a foundation of empathy, inclusivity, and a deep respect for the your inner world. Together, we work to cultivate insight, resolve long-standing conflicts, and foster a more authentic, integrated sense of self in a safe and supportive space.

I believe we all carry an innate capacity for healing, even in the face of anxiety, disconnection or feeling stuck. My own path to becoming a psychotherapist began with a deep curiosity about the hidden patterns that shape us, and the meaningful change that becomes possible when we bring them into awareness.

I integrate insights from attachment theory and work through a trauma-informed lens, offering sensitive, respectful support as we explore your emotional world. At the foundation of my practice is a commitment to creating a safe, equitable and affirming space for all clients, rooted in anti-oppressive, anti-racist and allied values.
